The Department of Employment and Labour’s Compensation Fund together with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and two departmental branches, Public Employment Services (PES) and Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES), will be bringing the department’s basket of services closer to the farming communities in the Kouga Local Municipality, Eastern Cape.
Farmworkers are among some of the most vulnerable groups with less or no access at all to labour laws and services, thus resulting in some of their rights being exploited.
The objective of these workshops and outreaches is thus to engage and educate farm employers and farm workers as well as the communities in the area on labour laws compliance, their rights and responsibilities, and more specifically on Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Amendments Act 10 of2022 as signed by the President of the Republic of South Africa in 2023.
